City of Jeffersontown

The City of Jeffersontown is a pro-business full service community that is located in southeastern Jefferson County. It is a second-class city and is governed by a strong mayor/city council form of government with zoning authority. Jeffersontown has a full service 25 employee public works department and a 50 officer police force generally recognized as one of the finest in Kentucky. The population of Jeffersontown is approximately 27,500 residents and swells to a workforce of close to 50,000 daily.

The diversity of business in Jeffersontown is stunning in breadth. The Jeffersontown economy includes not only the largest, most successful industrial park in the Commonwealth, but also portions of a premier commercial corridor (Hurstbourne Parkway), two large shopping centers (Stony Brook and Plainview), a small town neighborhood shopping district (Gaslight Square) and Jefferson County's fastest growing mixed use development (Blakenbaker Crossings).

Bluegrass Research & Industrial Park

Development of Bluegrass Industrial Park began in the mid 1960's. It was recognized that Jefferson County was lacking an undeveloped area for industrial growth. Leaders from throughout the county worked to identify the area east of downtown Louisville as a potential location for just such a site. The linchpin for the development was Jeffersontown annexing the then approximately 600 acres into its city. With the provision of city services, development took off.

Bluegrass Industrial Park today consists of over 1,800 acres, approximately 750 businesses and nearly 38,000 employees. It features every type of business imaginable, from a four-year liberal arts degree college to numerous athletic facilities to not just industrial. The sheer size of the workforce creates demand for all types of services. The Park is served by two interstate interchanges, rail, high volume electrical and water service, fiber-optic wiring and underground utilities in newer sections.

Bluegrass Industrial Park is located adjacent to I-64 approximately 15 minutes from downtown Louisville and 15 minutes from Louisville International Airport.

Hurstbourne Parkway Corridor

One of the premier commercial corridors in Jefferson County, Hurstbourne Parkway is quickly becoming a major north/south connector currently stretching from Westport Road on the north to Bardstown Road on the south. The section that borders Jeffersontown is from Shelbyville Road on the north to Taylorsville Road on the south. It includes numerous restaurants (approximately 100 in the area) and hotels (approximately 3,000 rooms in the area). Two major shopping developments are located in the Jeffersontown area of Hurstbourne, those being Plainview Shopping Center at Linn Station Road and Stony Brook Shopping Center at Taylorsville Road.

Blankenbaker Crossings

Blankenbaker Crossings located at Blankenbaker Parkway and I-64 is possibly the hottest real estate development area in the region. It is a mixed-use development that borders Bluegrass Industrial Park in the east. The development includes industrial uses, world headquarters such as Papa John's International, retail outlets, restaurants and even includes McKendree College, a four-year liberal arts degree college.

Taylorsville Road

Running through the heart of Jeffersontown, Taylorsville Road is lined with stately homes mixed with commercial uses. This thoroughfare has linked Louisville to Jeffersontown for close to 200 years. The intersection of Taylorsville Road and Watterson Trail has been the historical center of town since its formation.
