Jeffersontown Elementary After School Wallet Wi$e Program

Our first Wallet Wi$e Program was a HUGE success!!  Teaming up with Jeffersontown Elementary and the YMCA After School Program, Chamber Members went into the school to teach financial literacy.  Working with ages K-5, the kids read a book and answered questions about finances such as the differences between earning and spending, as well as income and savings!

Relay races were next!  So full of energy, these kids ran and played while learning important economic vocabulary.  Then onto the classic game of "Memory".  This event would not have been possible without our Education Committee volunteers: Anita Johnson, Paula Parkerson, Jennifer Clemens, Sheri Michels, Karen Seiler (KCEE), and Margaret Phillips (KCEE).  For more information on how YOU can get involved in the Chamber's Education Initiative call 267-1674 or email Shelley.

The Chamber Jefferstontown is proud to announce our partnership with the Kentucky Council on Economic Education.

Mission: The purpose of Wallet Wi$e is to empower the Jeffersontown Community with financial and economic literacy.  This initiative will provide the skills and awareness needed to establish a foundation for financial responisiblity and economic independence.

Financial Fitness for Life is a complete system for teaching personal finance to students in grades K-12.  "Financial Fitness for Life does more than demystify money.  It presents key concepts in personal finance and consumer math in an easy-to-understand style using real-life examples and lessons."  Kids will learn about saving, investing, using credit, and managing money.

"The Chamber  Jeffersontown is invested in the education of tomorrow's workforce." -Chamber President Vicky Weber

This program is correlated to National and Kentucky standards in economics,
language arts, mathematics and personal finance.

“Wallet Wi$e” Financial Educational Partnership Announced between The Chamber Jeffersontown and the Kentucky Council on Economic Education

Louisville, Kentucky—The Kentucky Council on Economic Education (KCEE) and The Chamber Jeffersontown recently announced “Wallet Wi$e,” a new year-long financial and economic literacy initiative. KCEE and The Chamber Jeffersontown will extend their outreach to the entire Jeffersontown community through workshops, library events, school programs and a culminating family-oriented event. The initiative’s imprint will include Jeffersontown students, teachers, parents and families.

Workshops will be offered to parents to help them learn how to talk to their children about money management. Jeffersontown students will learn the economic skills vital to the everyday business of life through “Financial Fitness for Life: Shaping Up Your Financial Future,” a KCEE-provided curriculum. By gaining the information and the confidence to set goals and research personal financial choices, students will also learn to apply mathematics skills in a “real-world” context.

KCEE President Jan Mester says, “KCEE is pleased to work with The Chamber Jeffersontown to help raise the visibility of personal financial literacy for students, families and the Jeffersontown community. ‘Wallet Wi$e’ will convey this ongoing commitment between our organizations.”

“Wallet Wi$e” arose from KCEE and The Chamber Jeffersontown’s mutual goal to empower students and their families with financial and economic literacy. Both organizations seek to provide the Jeffersontown community with the skills and awareness needed to establish a foundation for a future of financial responsibility and economic independence.
